About Me
Anna
I grew up on a farm in the Karoo in South Africa, before we had TVs or even electricity, so weekends and holidays had many hours to fill. One of my favourite things to do was walk around the farm, the scrap heap, or even the house, collecting scraps and discarded things and turning them into something creative. My mom was a sewing teacher and also made custom dresses for local dances, so I could sew before I could ride a bike. Once again, her offcuts became my treasure trove. This was the late ’80s, which might explain my love for metallics, leopard print and bright colours!I knew from a young age that I wanted to do something creative when I grew up, and fashion seemed like the obvious choice.I went on to study Fashion Design and started my own company in my mid-twenties. I absolutely loved it and built it into something that I am still very proud of today. But after almost two decades, I started feeling that “I” was missing from it. It had taken on its own identity that was so far removed from who I am as a person that I eventually lost my passion for it.So I sold it, with absolutely no idea what was next. I gave myself a year off for some R&R, and hopefully to discover my next adventure, career-wise.The idea for this business came during a meditation...I opened my eyes and saw the room divider that used to stand next to my meditation space. I had bought it from Facebook Marketplace a couple of years before. It was made up of cut-out wooden trees that had been painted brown. I had painted it dark blue and was planning on adding gold stars to the top when it suddenly dawned on me…THAT is what my next business will be!I was so excited that I bought my first two pieces to renovate the very next day!And it has been quite the learning curve. I’ve acquired a whole new set of skills, and I believe this is only the beginning. But I am enjoying this process with my whole heart.Seeing the potential in an overlooked or beat-up piece of furniture and giving it a completely new identity, while bringing my love for fashion, colour and styling into the process, gives me immense joy. It’s something I was doing as a child, and maybe I’ve actually been doing it my whole life.Seeing the possibility in something and transforming it into a magical piece of art.Maybe I’ve just come full circle.
